Solid team...amazing rotation, bullpen. Needs to get some bats in that lineup though.

If they win their division with a losing record, they should forfeit a trip to the playoffs.

San Diego has finally put together a good team. If everyone stays healthy they will will the division. If the pitching continues (they are 3rd NL and only Florida and LA have fewer walks, over 300 Ks, the staff has thrown the least amount of wild pitches in the NL, they don't give up bombs often - solid) then they'll be there in October.

This is a good team on paper. They have a talented lineup and one of the best young pitching staffs in the league. They had a good road record last year but a sorry home record. If they continue to struggle at home, Manager Bruce Bochy better shave that big mustache of his and demand ownership to return to Qualcomm Stadium.

A headcase team that has ruined some potentially great players. I don't think the front office or the field management could run a popcorn stall. How Tony Gwynn ever prospered here eludes me.

I've always been a diehard Padres fan. I love this team, no matter how well or poorly they do. They do frustrate me, however. They have great talent but get rid of fine players, trading Ben Davis to keep Wiki Gonzalez. The Padres had Bubba Trammell, and he drove in 93 runs without even playing every day; yet they traded for Ray Lankford to platoon with him, ruining Trammell's confidence. Look at Bubba's ratio of at-bats to RBIs and on-base percentage--it's higher than Nevin's. And the Padres have a potential 15-20 game winner named Clay Condrey; he was great two years ago. Last year Bochy promised him a place in the starting rotation, yet on opening day, Condrey came in to pitch in relief. Without even one start, Condrey was demoted. Why? Then after pitching one inning here and there, Condrey got a few starts and began some games with a few innings of great pitching; because he was used to pitching one inning in relief, he got tired by the fourth inning of his starts and then got knocked around. He has so much potential but lost his confidence and ended up with a high ERA. Howard and Tankersley would also be good if Bochy showed some confidence in them, instead of going with retreads like Charles Nagy and Ismael Valdes. The Pads have their best catcher ever now (Hernandez), and Khalil Greene will be excellent. I think Burroughs will be a consistent 300 hitter and so will Nady if they give him a full year. Peavy can be great one day. This team has much potential.

There's something cursed about the city of San Diego, CA and any sports team affiliated with them. It's taken me most of my life to realize it but it's true. I gave up the San Diego Chargers as my fav. NFL team in '96 and the Padres this year. Not all because of the past failures but there's just something about the community and the owners of their teams, the athletes they sign that I can't put a finger on that bothers me. They're losers; they're morons. I get that impression from the actual citizens every time I visit San Diego. Don't get me wrong, I love the climate and scenery of San Diego. The weather is the most perfect in the world. But there's something about the people of the community that comes across as "fake" or "amateur" or "stupid." Maybe there's no adjective to describe it. No real culture or pride in the city, either. The people are just kind of stupid, just..."there." And so are athletes and owners of San Diegan teams. No, I'm not delusional or paranoid. This is real.

A complete lack in ability to produce home-grown talent is finally bringing this organization to a screeching halt. Forget Burroughs and Nady (two in a decade is a terrible record).....they need to clean house here and start all over again with someone that has an idea of how to teach baseball.

What exactly is wrong with my hometown team? Hopefully we won't be seeing a "Curse of Tony (Gwynn)" now that our star player has departed.

I live in San Diego and I think these guys are consistently terrible. They didn't know how to hold on to all of that talent they had in '98. They'll never capture that thunder that they did 4 years ago ever again. Fire Bochy!
