A fearsome hitter in his prime. For many years it seemed like you could write 30 homers and 100 RBIs beside his name in April and he'd have delivered that and more by season end. As oscar says, not the most likeable guy, but a hell of a ball player, falling just short of the Olympian elites.

Very steady, consistent player from the late 70's to the mid/ late 90's, and he aged well- was still effective late in his career. Not the most likeable guy, grim and difficult to deal with, but there's no questioning his performance on the field. Growing up watching The Red Sox as a kid, this guy was one of the most feared hitters among the other clubs in the A.L. East with The Orioles, and he played well for other teams after. Decent glove at first. Similar overall to the now disgraced Palmeiro- but in my view a better player in the context of the time than Palmeiro was in his.
