With McCarthy and Stengel, this guy is a contender for the top manager all-time. An easy selection for the Hall as a manager. Interestingly, he'd almost qualify for election as a player. As a decent, and brutally competitive third baseman for the legendary Orioles teams of the 1890's McGraw was a key element and put up decent numbers.

Can't add much to what irishgit said- very fine player, good eye for talent and made a lot of shrewd trades, and won a lot of pennants and three series with The Giants. What's particularly impressive about his reign is that The Giants were virtually always at least competitive, the team had very few losing seasons in his long tenure, 5 star selection.
