"Pro-life" Democrat who served as the ambassador to the Vatican during the Clinton Administration, after he had completed his run as Boston's mayor. He was a State Representative and City Councilman prior to becoming Beantown's mayor. As a younger man, he played on the hoops team at Providence College and even made a run at joining the Celtics.

Ray was rather good as a mayor, but a major publicity hound- you might recall that at the Democratic Convention in '92 he practically leaped in front of Clinton to get on t.v. Later became the ambassador to the Vatican.
