A Cincinatti sportswriter, the founder of the American League, who basically ruled it with an iron fist until the 1919 events of the Series scandal and losing a court case against The Yankees involving pitcher Carl Mays, who basically just quit The Red Sox and was then traded to N.Y. by the Yankees' puppet, Harry Frazee. New York, Boston, and the White Sox won a power struggle against Johnson and his allies, and though he remained league President, his powers were greatly diminished.
