A wrong and ignorant statement by itself. But is it taken into the context of what the Representative said? Easy to judge, hard to look deeper into.

I do love these characters who speak for God and act like them and God are 'like this.' Where's a Holy lightning bolt when you need one?

This was a hurtful and stupid statement! I am a republican and if I could vote for Mr. Baker I would never do so. He by no means speaks on behalf of the Republican Party.

Aside from the cruelty of the statement, it's appalingly stupid. Why do people elect such obvious hatemongers and Neanderthals as this person?

And Republicans wonder why their party is headed down the sewer! Seems like a lot of elitist, racist hatemongers in office who pretend to be so patriotic and religious slip with statements like these that allow a glimpse of their true nature.

i guess this would be my response. what can you say to this? A lot of poor people lost their homes. and may never get a home there again. It would be hard for me to think that God would want these people to be homeless because they are poor. as if they need to be punished. it just seems to be a cruel thing to say.

And that is a very commonly held sentiment in New Orleans. Katrina is often referred to in the Garden District and the French Quarter as "The Purification."
