Another clear explanation that spiritual things must be discerned spiritually. Believers have been given the ability to discern those things, yet unbelievers will not understand them because they are not enabled by God to discern them.

This was Jesus' way of explaining the Kingdom of God to the Pharisees who objected to Him. Donovan does a better job of explaining it than I do.

There is nothing wrong with Mark 4:11-12. This Scripture tells us that Jesus was trying to explain the mysteries of the kingdom of God to Jews who had been prophesied to by Isaiah. They were hardhearted and calloused after listening to Isaiah. The multitudes of people would not have understood or accepted the teachings of Jesus if taught in a direct manner. Jesus used parables to allow the aspects of the kingdom to sink into their hearts and minds. The parables that Jesus taught about the kingdom of God were (1) parable of the soils, (2) parable of the lamp, (3) parable of the growing seed, and (4) the parable of the mustard seed. 11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables: 12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them (Mark 4:11-12)
