Pennsylvania really hasn't been a basketball factory like it was in the decades past. The Sixers seem to be an NBA also-ran, the Big Five isn't the same as it was 30-50 years ago, and Penn State brings absolutely nothing to the table in hoops. Pitt tends to do alright, but it doesn't have the pull that the Big Five had in its heyday. At the very least, Philly is home to some fine streetball and there are efforts to revive the Big Five.

Pennsylvania is a strong Basketball State. It's more of a Footbal-State, but Basketball, esp. at the College level is very good. Pitt, The Philadelphia-area, Bucknell and Lehigh are all quality BBall schools. Penn State could be good if they wanted to be. Penna. is the home of Philadelphia's Big 5 - Temple, Villanova, LaSalle, Penn and St. Joe's play one another in a classic series of Basketball unique to the USA. They play in one of the best BBall places ever, The Palestra. On this High school level, Penna produces many quality players. Hoops in the Phila.-area is very strong and if you were to look at College and Pro rosters, you'd be surprised how many Pennsylvania players are out there. State has only one Pro team though. Go Sixers !
