No real suprise given the high expectations of Hoosier fans year in and year out. The job was handed to him since he was at the right place at the right time after Bob Knight's implosion.

I don't know, he is put in a no-win situation, replacing Knight, and leads the team to the NCAA finals in his second year. Even in the year he got canned, his team won a game in the NCAA tournament. As Indiana luck would have it, they hire Kevin Sampson, who gets slapped with NCAA recruiting violations while at Oklahoma.

Indiana basketball is a big deal to a lot of people, and I don't think his resignation was expected at the beginning of the year. His stepping down could lead to a lot of movement in the coaching ranks, with Steve Alford, Iowa's head coach, likely the top contender for the job.
