One of the early legends of pro football, McNally originally played under the alias Johnny Blood to preserve his college eligibility. He started his career back in the prehistoric days of the sport, playing for the Milwaukee Badgers, Duluth Eskimos, Pottsville Maroons, Green Bay Packers and Pittsburg Pirates in a career that ran from 1925 to 1938. He was as eccentric off the field as he was skilled on it, prone to wild excesses and long runs from scrimmage. For much of his career he was probably the best receiver in the game, and one of the best runners.
