Lynn Swann 2

I know Lynn Swann is a nice, likable guy, but I have a hard time justifying him as a Hall of Famer. There have been 10 guys listed as wide receivers that have been elected to the HOF, and Swann has the least catches, yards, and touchdowns among all of them. When you look at where Swann ranks among his peers from the same era, he was only a top 10 receiver in the league for 3 of his 9 seasons. That is good, but I don't see it as Hall of Fame worthy. Swann was helped immensely by his association with the Steelers. He won 4 Super Bowl rings, and in 3 of those games he played great. In the Steelers first Super Bowl win he didn't record a reception and actually lost yardage on his only rush. Swann didn't have a long career in which he compiled amazing statistics, nor was he ever a truly dominant player. His Hall of Fame selection seems to be more the result of having played on great teams than it was because of his own individual merit.
