 | GoinDownSlow (31) 08/28/2007 | I actually feel sorry for these people because there are really only two choices you can make if you are a pedophile: Check yourself into a clinic for life or check yourself out of the human race.
Face it, in the shitty life sweepstakes you have the winning number.

 | HistoryFan (102) 02/27/2006 | NAMBLA needs to be shut down and I'm surprised that it isn't already shut down. It isn't about "ageism" or "homophobia." It's about protecting the innocent and those who cannot protect themselves.

 | Drummond (60) 02/20/2006 | I am curious as to the rationale of the individuals who rated this item and rape lower than 5. I'm all ears.
I have heard arguments that 18 years is arbitrary, and that some teenagers are mature enough for sex as early as 16 while others may not be mature enough until they are 40, if ever. Be that it may, society has to set standards and because the ambiguities are so great on an individual basis sometimes the standards have to be arbitrary. Some states have allowances where there is a closeness in age, ie. a 17 year old dating an 18 year old. Other states simply make it a crime to have sex with anybody under 18 period, so technically if both partners are 17 both have committed statory rape.
The other consideration is that many of us guys think that at 14 if we'd had sex with that hot biology teacher in her mid 20s that we'd have come out of it okay, and with great memories. Probably true, but then consider, would you have had the will power to resist her advances? The issue isn't always harm per se, but simply whether you have been preyed on because you lack the emotional capacity for true consent.
In any case, liberal as I am, I support arbitrary lines at 18, with some allowances for close ages. The potential for harm is too great and far outweigh the individual circumstances where such a relationship might be morally appropriate in the absence of the law.
Updating to take part in a very interesting discussion:
I certainly agree that the law should not distinguish between adult men and women, for equal protection reasons if nothing else. But as unPC as this sounds, I wonder if it isn't fair to acknowledge that most of us don't react to a female on young male violation as emotionally as male on young female (or male). And if we acknowledge that we don't have the same gut reaction, is it fair to ask whether women violators tend to be less predatory than male violators in that they are more likely to have real (real not necessarily being appropriate) feelings for the victim. In short, is it in fact less detrimental for a woman to seduce a teenage boy than for a man to seduce a teenage girl?
I'm not making the assertion. Just asking a question. Sometimes reality is less comfortable than we'd like it to be.

 | Vudija (100) 02/20/2006 | Samjung: I agree with you on your 8 year student more than likely being a victim, but that's about where it ends. I can only conclude, from the 3rd paragraph of your comment, that: as long as the woman isn't his teacher, it's okay? So, a 27 year old woman shouldn't control herself when a 13 year old BOY has a crush on her? There should be NO reason that a 13 year old boy would be able to sucessfully "push all the right buttons" for a 27 year old woman, unless something was mentally wrong with her. THAT is perversion, if ever I saw it. She's not some "poor woman", if she gets caught committing a crime: if she weren't committing a crime in the first place; she'd have no issues to deal with. It's disgusting to commit and it's even more disgusting that you make it sound okay for a woman to get involved with a young boy. On that same note; why the double standard, huh? If you condone women with young boys; why not the opposite? I mean; let's let my grandfather (who is a pedophile) have your daughter (or future daughter), huh? Or do you see something wrong with that?
***Update***You obviously don't know much about the psyche of young boys and sexual conduct. If a WOMAN is having sexual relations with a 13 year old boy; it more than likely has nothing to do with actual attraction towards the child, more an attraction to the act itself. These young boys feel loved, seek attention from women that they think loves them, and usually become obsessed with the person with whom they are involved. I call this a "predator/prey" relationship, NOT a suitable relationship, especially when this is probably the boy's first experience. I don't think being traumatized, isn't harmful for the child in question. BTW: just for clarification; I'm not religious, and my opinions have NOTHING to do with any sort of religious belief. I have morals, sue me!

 | frogio (51) 02/20/2006 | Sick bastards. Should be neutered with a rusty fork, beaten senseless and dragged out in the street and shot. As you can see, with a 5 year old daughter who can't even walk three doors up to visit her friend for fear of being raped, I've got no sympathy for these scumbags at all.

 | zuchinibut (45) 02/20/2006 | Sex is something that should be left for adults. There are too many negative consequences that come from sex, that minors should not be having sex...ESPECIALLY with a person who is older than them. I don't care how old a child is or what type of relationship they have with an adult...there is always a difference in terms of power between a child and an adult. As an adult...having sexual relations with a minor is a misuse of power.
