Maybe a big deal in 1954, but not anymore. If you ARE gonna get busted for this, why get busted for more or less 'mundane' porn, like regular sex or something conventional? If I was gonna get busted for something as routine and ho- hum as this, I'D hope it was for something really way out there and noteworthy enough to get you in the paper and have everyone say you're nuts, like Bea Arthur in an itty bitty thong going at it with Della Reese in S&m GEAR... (all right that was a joke people, I'm as mortified at thinking about that as you are)

As long as it's not child porn, it's no big deal, and no one's business.

Its only illegal if you have some underage people in it. Who thought this up?

If it is legal to manufacture, I guess you can't logically criminalize the ownership of it.

Except for child porn, these laws are pretty much history - killed by an ACLU enhanced First Amendment, for better or worse. Judges and legislators had attempted to fashion legal standards to define porn, such as "material of a prurient interest calculated to provoke sexual reaction and lacking in redeeming cultural, historical, scientific, and educational characteristics." So basically, the civil libertarians asked, are we saying that well written porn is acceptable, but badly written porn illegal?" Problem is, badly written porn has an educational value - as in "don't do this." Justice Hugo Black was probably the last Supreme Court justice to attempt to fashion a workable standard. He basically said, "I'll know it when I see it." Unfortunately, he's no longer around to point it out to us.

Unless it is child pornography, again, it is very hard to regulate these things that dont harm anyone but those involved. Its like outlawing smoking, or drinking. And we have not found the reasons to outlaw either of those yet thank God.

Oh well, there goes my select cache of National Geographic magazines. Gotta get a new hobby, anyway.

I think that it is absolutely fine for an adult to possess or view pornography. Of course this rating is assuming that the pornography doesn't involve animals, children, or unwilling participants.
