 | Drummond (54) 02/21/2006 | I'm not a particularly religious person, but I do pray in sort of the Unitarian "to whom it may concern" manner. I don't know that I've experienced an altered state of mind through prayer, but I've certainly drawn comfort from it.

 | earthbound (37) 02/20/2006 | I used to do this when I was a kid and I would frequently feel elevated during the process and experience extreme serenity. At the time, I attributed it to some sort of communion with a higher being. Then a sneaking voice in the back of my head (common sense?, Satan? - you choose, I don't know) told me that it was really a form of meditation and I was elevating myself to this level without any divine intervention.
Now, as an adult, I miss the sensation and have not found a satisfactory equivalent that works for me yet.
