 | fitman (51) 10/17/2008 | If I had to work at Walmart for about 1/2 of a living wage and take crap from a management that hasn't a clue, I'd be tempted to go postal.
Give the poor wage slaves a break!

 | LadyJesusFan777 (39) 10/17/2008 | I have seen some employees that should have stayed home rather than to bring their troubles to work and take it out on the customer. But then I could say the same for some of the customers. Nobody is going to have good days all the time, but we should all remember not to take our frustrations out on someone else because we may be going through something. Nobody said life was going to be easy.

 | pjholst (0) 11/17/2006 | First of all I am an ex-Wal-Mart employee. I worked there for three years (2001-2004). At the time I was hired I was an electrician who was hired to work on a four man crew that installed security cameras (CCTV) in the new construction of walmart buildings in Southern California. I was started at $13.00 an hour and by the time I was fired I was at $15.38. I know for a fact that I was getting close the twice as much as the "average" associate (but arn't they all average). At that time the State of California made anything over 8 hours a day overtime so... you guessed it... If we worked not than 8 hours a day we "could" be fired. Everyone who knew the ropes would just clock out before there 8th hour and go back to work and finish what we had get done but if they saw you working off the clock they "could" fire you!! I did that for two years then I went to my home store (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) and worked as Loss Prevention. At the end of July I went to lunch with 2 co-workers BUT didnt clock out. I found out later we were at lunch 45 min but when we got back I filled out a manual time adjustment stating my lunch was 30. I was suspended that Friday and officially fired two days later. During my time at walmart I recovered tens of thousands of dollars in stolen items both from internal and external theft, sent third strikers back to prison, had guns pulled on me, had knifes pulled on me, saw me partner stabbed three time in front of me, cleared three bomb threats, fractured bones in fights. That does not include all the money we saved in the installation of the CCTV systems. I still was fired over 15 min.=$3.85!!! You do the math!

 | gamerman (8) 03/06/2006 | Now I understand why people don't want Walmart in their neighborhoods. A lot of the employees are mean and ghetto. They are not friendly and that's a turn off. Some of the workers don't even help you find something and they get upset when you ask them for directions. They seem to have a lot of dress code violations too. I'm tired of seeing women with bizarre hair styles, really long fingernails and guys sagging. One walwart employee got upset when I interrupted his little conversation with another co worker. I'm the customer help me! Stay away from this dump if you can.

 | Drummond (60) 03/01/2006 | My problem with them is that they're too cheerful, in a contrived and forced sort of way. Apparently the Germans are creeped out by the approach. They don't shop for the experience of shopping. They go in to get their stuff and get out. Walmart isn't doing very well in that country, nor a few others in Europe.
For a good first hand account of working for Walmart as an "associate," read Barbara Ehrenreich's "Nickel and Dimed," where she obtained a job with them in real life and wrote about the experience.

 | caphillsea77 (32) 02/25/2006 | Often times it can be very difficult to find help on the floors at Wal-Mart. In the Wal-Mart up the road from me you often encounter employees who barely speak a lick of English.

 | AndrewScott (73) 02/24/2006 | Despite Wal-Mart getting much more negative press these days, I never worry about my local Wal-Mart greeter possibly going postal.
Then again, I've never came across Mike Holly when I start my gold-digging, country-music listening, stripper ways in Aisle 5.
