 | effy05 (11) 10/06/2008 | Cops instill so much fear in me. It's their uniforms. The way they walk around in their uniforms. The fact that I can't talk back to them. Their impenetrable air of being in the right, at all times. Their cars, their radios, their dogs, their training, their coded talk. Sure, they're a good sight to see when I'm walking alone at 2 a.m., but at the least bit of offense, they no longer act as my protector, but treat me as if I'm a criminal, rather than a citizen. Do they really have to be that mean when they pull you over?

 | caphillsea77 (32) 02/25/2006 | As noted below big city cops portray much attitude and corruption (especially in LA, Baltimore, and Philly). In the end though a police officer would take a bullet for you and that deserves respect.

 | millian (0) 02/24/2006 | most i have dealt with have a attitude, but look who they are dealing with all day. the cops are your friend when you need them for an enmergency. but when they are investigating you for alligations. who needs them. they are not your friends. its a sad world when anyone can call there police friend, tell them there problem, the police investigation is you a former employee of 3 years ,the officers talks to 3 times over the phone, in 10 minute intervials and decides to charge you with theft of money because a complete stranger said they gave you the cash for a sale of an automobile. this is a 7000.00 vehicle. you ran his business of 29 years by yourself, he makes 800K a year, i make 32k a year but yet i stole 7k from the sale of his automobile. i have lost my livly hood of 17 years and a year of income. no case has been brought against me yet. but its sad all in one day one cop and a friend/employer can ruin your life. trust no one, worst of sll any cop,the one whom you pay (your attorney) is who you trust.

 | Randyman (113) 02/24/2006 | With my son in law a retired police officer, my brother a community service officer in the Orange County Sheriff's Dept, my brother in law a former LAPD, and my son in the Coast Guard, I have nothing but respect for all law enforcement officers. It just can't be easy! Tboneya says it best.

 | HistoryFan (102) 02/24/2006 | Tboneya hit the nail on the head. Cops have to put up with bull crap 24/7. Imagine having to put up with a disgruntled motorist who is pissed that he got a ticket that he felt he didn't deserve or having to chase after a suspect after a 2 and half hour car chase.

 | Molfan (63) 02/24/2006 | There are some very good police officers out there and do a wonderful job they put their lives on the line everyday. and hurrah for them. however there are the bad cops too who use their badge as an excuse to bully too bad because they are the ones who give other police a bad name sometimes and that is unfair.

 | frogio (51) 02/23/2006 | I'd sooner deal with a state trooper than a city cop any day. The city boys are idiots...they were the bullies in the playground when they were five and now they are the bullies with a gun at 25. Too decrepit to get in the army or coast guard and too stupid to get in the state police. Walking attitudes with mace.

 | minkey (40) 02/23/2006 | Cops I met in New England/New York were by and large complete jerks, but most of the ones I've met here in SF are real sweethearts. I tell you what though, if there's one group of people who deserve some sympathy for having an attitude problem, it's cops. The stuff they deal with...as my Dad says, God Bless 'em.

 | souljunkie (21) 02/23/2006 | Professional bullies and control freaks for the most part. (HPD). In my day I believe you will get treated like a citizen with respect by the Sherrifs dept. City cops are a bunch of criminals and losers themselves from where Im standin'. If you need to find one quickly go to a donut/taco stand or a Titty Bar.

 | Jed1000 (74) 02/23/2006 | Every time I've had to deal with police either out in public or in a traffic situation they approached me with the attitude that I must be guilty of something. Rude, surly, loud, aggressive, and belligerent in every case. One female officer once walked up to my window and screamed so loud in my left ear that I jumped and sent my coffee cup flying across the dashboard. When I turned to my brother for help (since I only speak ASL (sign language) she yelled that she wasn't interested in his "god***" opinion. All of them need attitude adjustments in my pinion.
