 | oscargamblesfro (82) 03/17/2006 | A mediocre, at best, to be kind, hard rock/ blues or boogie band, several members had been in Savoy Brown, an uneven but occasionally good British blues rock band that were fairly popular around the turn of the 70's in the U.S., in fact, much bigger here than in their homeland. Guitarist Rod Price had come from Black Cat Bones, an obscure outfit that put out one decent album in late 69, and had included a couple of guys who would go on to Free and Bad Company. This band was pretty big in the mid to late 70's, but virtually all of their hits and radio favorites were derivative and bland. For instance, 'Slow Ride" is basically nothing but a subpar Zeppelin knockoff. Their version of "I Just Want To Make Love To You" was pretty ok, but nowhere near The Stones' rendition, to say nothing of the superb Muddy Waters original. A boring, generic group, but proof that a below average band can become big by constant touring.
