A traitorous, backstabbing son of the King of Jerusalem, all he ever cared about was his own reputation and how people thought about him. All his actions were derived from this motive. Since he put to death a Prince of Jerusalem (who was of less worth than even Absalom), so too was Absalom put to death, and King David was therefore wrong in defending his son, though understandibly so.
