It's a feast for the senses, walking along historical streets, and inhaling the fragrance of the sea and lush greenery.. it's easy to imagine the colorful history of the people who have lived here, mariners, artists, poets, and the such.  Don't rush, walk one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, enjoy a cup of coffee with a view of the terracotta tiles with the sun warming your face while a street musician entertains.  Why aren't you there already? :)

Dubrovnik is beautiful and was the historic Republic of Ragusa that was independent for 800 years until Napoleon ended its independence in about 1800. The Montenegro armed forces tried to capture it during the Yugoslav break up and destroyed much of the old city. It is being rebuilt as I understand it.

Right on the Adriatic Sea, along the Dalmatian Coast, stands one of the most intriguing cities in all of Europe. The old town itself has some excellent examples of medieval and baroque architecture. This is one of those old towns that you want to get lost in. The most interesting aspect of Dubrovnik is the old city walls, which are preserved intact. You can walk the entire 2 mile length of the city to get excellent views of the old town, along with the Adriatic. The city itself isn't all that big; in fact, you can probably see it in a few hours. But, I think it would be better to stay a few days to really capture the essence of this place. You'll find very warm and interesting people, along with a rich, varied and a tumultuous history. The old city itself was devastated by the 1991 Civil War, when Yugoslavia began breaking up into its component parts. Thousands of shells were lobbed at the city by the invading Serbs, damaging and destroying hundreds of important historic structures. Incredibly enough, the city has been almost fully restored to its original conditions. The re-building was done very carefully, with the workmanship matching that of the original structures.
