 | rok100 (6) 04/11/2007 | John Edwards "Crossing Over" is a LAUGH RIOT - IF you're in on the joke. Edwards is the modern-day equivalent to the TV evangelist and con-artist, Rev. Peter Popoff. He even uses some of the same tricks to convince America's massive hoards of profoundly gullible people that he can perform "miracles".
I've begun to suspect that the kind of people who keep falling for this nonsense are beyond reach. They actually can't be salvaged - because if they were, they'd just immediately start building shrines, taking-up love offerings and worshipping the salvage yard workers. What the H3LL! I mean, let's face facts: SOMEBODY has to buy Magic Jesus Weight Loss Shakes and Annointed Prayer Cloths. If it weren't for the horribly ignorant citizens here in America, George W. Bush would be poor, and unheard of - and the Bassett Hounds owned by Jim and Tammy Baker would have had to live in a 3 story Spanish-Styled dog house WITHOUT central air conditioning.

 | goddess rising (0) 09/19/2004 | John Edwards is real. It doesn't matter what the naysayers say. I am also an intuitive medium and psychic. I was trained to be analytical therefore I was a skeptic of even my own abilities until adulthood. He has a gift and gives those lives that he touches a gift - that is one of hope and of peace. His purpose and his work opens eyes, hearts, and minds of many. We are all seekers on the path. We know that this world is not IT. Why else would we feel such dis-satisfation in our lives? John gives us a glimpse of our infinite possiblilty. And that is good. We are much bigger than we conceive ourselves to be. If you don't believe that his work is possible - that is fine. Don't say it isn't real -- it is just not part of your defined reality.

 | kolby1973 (33) 04/01/2004 | I honestly cannot say if John Edward is for real or a fraud, I don't know him. I think the idea of his show is interesting, but I have seen it, and I find it to be very boring. Everyday is the same exact thing, there is never a break from the regular. Every now and then he will get a celebrity on there, but that could just make it more boring; depending on the celebrity of course. And I can definately say CROSSING OVER is a much better show than the rival one.(BEYOND WITH JAMES VAN PRAUGH OR SOME CRAP) That one sucks like no other, but it was already cancelled. As for his character, like I said..don't know if he is fake or not. But I do feel personally that he honestly thinks he is helping people, and making them happy. If someone dedicates their life to making OTHERS happy, then what is so wrong in that? IF more people lived to make others happy, this world would be such a better place.

 | scootsie_97 (0) 09/16/2003 | I can honestly say that this show is ok. I watch it occasionally to get my supernatural fix since my fav show beyond with James Van Pragh was cancelled. I think he has some supernatural powers but I don't think that he is as good as they want people to think he is. If you watch him doing his thing you can tell he fishes for information. He cannot be specific and correct at the same time. He wastes alot of time to get a hit or miss phrase. If he is wrong, he will change what he said to suit the persons story. I wouldn't watch it if Beyond was still on. At least on Beyond, James would tell the person "No that's not what I'm getting" and move on to something else. John rarely seems believable but it is mildly entertaining if there is nothing good on TV.

 | totellthetruth (0) 05/21/2003 | I was a sceptic, although leaning more to believing, having watched the show several times. One day, a friend came over to go biking and before we left she had to tell my husband and I an amazing thing that happened to her friend's husband. He's a successful stock broker and had turned on the TV before work one day to catch up on the stock market news. However, what came on was not the stock channel he usually tuned in, but John Edwards on SciFi! He was surprised, and had never heard of the show, but interested, he stayed tuned in. His wife's mother had passed away unsolved as to why and the wife had been distraught not knowing the answer. He decided to make an appointment with John and flew to New York to John's office (he described as much like an accountant or lawyers office). John was polite but very direct in getting started. He immediately requested to get the wife on the phone as he was getting someone coming through specifically for her. They did so, he proceeded to identify the wife's nickname given by the mother. He also said the mother was pleased with what the wife had done with the kitchen in their new house (mother had never seen prior to death)! The wife had placed several beloved nicnaks from the mother on the ledge above her kitchen cabinets! There is no way these and other things mentioned in the reading John could have known anything about....so, yes, I am now convinced there is something to what John does that is real - perhaps others on the fence or who don't believe to have a more personal experience.

 | marconej (0) 05/19/2003 | ONLY 2 possibilities: 1) He's deliberately deceiving people for the money - which makes him a horrid human being and should be in jail for fraud or 2) He thinks he's talking to the dead which makes him mentally unstable and should be in a mental hospital.

 | DrummaBoy (0) 04/08/2003 | Ernie Tazblatt, the original channeler for Crossing Over with John Edwards, alleges "It the most obvious case of self-nepotism I've ever seen. He was hired because his name matched the show's. It's that simple. He has no other qualifications. I can out-medium John any day of the week." I also caught up with Edwards' former girlfriend "Judy" [her real name], and although she couldn't comment on the allegations due to legal and lack of knowledge issues, she was able to provide me with a damaging quote: "He's more of a small than a medium, if you know what I mean."

 | firegod (0) 02/18/2003 | He's a con artist. He takes advantage of the bereaved and gullible for his own benefit. He employs a magic trick known as cold reading, and anyone who knows how it's done and has any kind of sense knows this guy is a liar. Ever notice the entertainment only disclaimer at the beginning of his show that is about 30 lines long, in very small print and stays on the screen for about a second and a half? This is so he can legally get away with lying while providing a "service", but never really have to admit that he's lying. All phychic phone networks put "Entertainment Only" on the bottom of the screen for the same reason; Edward just has a real big and fast one so that very few people will know what it means. Another thing to keep in mind is that Edward records about 3 hours of these readings for one of his shows, and displays around 15 minutes of it. Of course the results are going to look real good. Duh. Read up on how Houdini discredited quacks of this ilk, and also get your hands on a tape of the first episode of a Showtime show called "Penn & Teller: Bulls***". If you learn exactly what cold reading is and still think Edward is legit, then my next suggestion is major therapy.

 | genesis232 (0) 12/18/2002 | John's ability to serve as a medium between the living and their deceased loved ones is truly undeniable. He hits the smallest details right on the head. What is so wrong with believing that there is another plane for which our souls go onto after you die? And for that matter why would it be impossible to connect with that dimension? I love this show and watch it every single day that I can!

 | Well,inmyopinion... (0) 11/30/2002 | I've seen and heard cold reading a number of times. It's usually pretty easy to spot and fairly amusing. Though John Edward does perform some of the same cold reading tricks that are typical of his contemporaries, repeated viewings of his show have lead me to believe that there may be something more to the guy, at least some of the time. While there is nothing "amazing" about the way he discovers names or places, what I find curious are some of the very specific details he comes up with without any clues from the people he's reading. For example, I've seen him get a name and a place, then immediately follow it up with something like, "I'm getting that he committed suicide in your doghouse using a butter knife and crazy glue" to which the people he's talking to drop their jaws and just nod in agreement. I'm making this example up, of course, but you get the idea. They're the kind of details that leave even the most sceptical person scratching thier head and wondering,"I know he's a fraud but how in the hell did he do that?" The easy answer would be that he researched the audience and his private detectives gave him those answers. However, if you give him the benefit of the doubt enough to figure he's doing it primarily through cold reading, with apologies to the sceptics, I've seen too many times where he came up with very detailed information that he couldn't possibly have gleaned from the one or two factoids that he had gotten from a cold read. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure we're only seeing the "best of the best" after his show is edited, and in the shows I've seen he doesn't always hit the mark, but I've seen him do enough things like the example I gave above to suspect that this guy may be tuning into something...whatever it is. I suspect that many of those who have expressed the opinion here that he is complete BS, have probably never sat down and watched more than one or two of his shows, if that, before drawing their conclusions. I would recommend to anyone who hasn't watched the show, to check it a few times with a critical eye. The odds are that you'll view at least one or two examples which will leave you scratching your head and wondering.

 | infidel57 (0) 11/25/2002 | This what is known as "cold reading." It is a cocktail lounge act which is especially cruel because it exploits grief. Those who watch contribute to this outrage because it boosts the ratings. Without ratings, John Edwards is dead meat.

 | mediterra (0) 07/08/2002 | How does this guy justify the baloney he tells these people? Does he feel he's making them feel better? Is that why he deserves to make the big bucks that he does? Unfortunately, there are a lot of stupid people in the world and that is what he "sees". He "sees" dollars floating around these ignorant, hopeful, lost souls in his audience.
Come on folks, just read Texx's comment. He's right on the mark. Just pay attention and ask youself over and over, why does he only rarely say something that is clear and concise that is correct. Obviously, he will be right occasionally when he guesses, but you can bet he also throws in a ringer every so often just to remove your doubts. Don't forget that.

 | MedgarEvers (15) 10/13/2001 | I started watching this when it started airing. Last spring break I think it was, I tuned into this and was somewhat intrigued. I think John has a budget of making a joke once or twice per episode. I read an article that had every possible way that John Edwards could be a big fraud. Every episode is very similar, I can't watch too much of it. If this is a big hoax, I'd feel veery guilty in Mr. Edwards shoes- falsely comforting people. And what's with the introduction at the beginning that says "John Edwards has proved to universities that he can communicate with dead people"???

 | CastleBee (88) 09/05/2001 | On a certain level, this may be the most frightening show on this network. But, what happened to the word FICTION in SciFi? I mean, I know it's fiction, John Edward knows it's fiction, but apparently the definition of the word in the second half of the title of their network has become a mystery to the SciFi Powers the Be - not to mention the people Edwards apparently sucks in during each episode. To be fair, yes, I believe this guy possibly does communicate with SOMETHING - no, NOT just his financial investment advisor and certainly NOT the dead. If you open your mind to any and everything with nothing to ground you in the truth, you WILL communicate with something. And you will very definitely be deceived by it.
