08/22/2007 | Mapplethorpe did a lot of fine album covers, such as Television's Marquee Moon. Horses has of the great androgynous Mapplethorpe photos, Patti Smith as an intimidating-looking flapper type. Smith was, strangely enough, his lover at this time. He would go on to present her as a bird-wielding kook for the cover of a later and lesser album, Wave. By the time, I think she'd found out he was gay.
