I think those that lie about not snoring do so because they're in denial about it. They don't want to believe they do, or at least don't think they should admit to it. These days though I'm not sure people lying about snoring is that common as it's recognised now that there are ways to prevent it, and in some cases it can be down to an underlying medical condition.Thankfully I don't snore (and I'm not lying about it either ;))

I think this is one of those things that people remain in denial about for a couple of reasons. First of all - I think most women (especially younger ones) tend to think of this as a standard gross guy bodily function thing and don't want to own up to it even if they suspect they're actually guilty. Secondly - until you wake yourself up sawing away at a forest - you really honestly may not be aware that you do it. My denial phase ended several years ago when I woke up having a nightmare involving heavy boots marching through mud and realized the audio for the dream was coming from me.

How the hell would I know? I'm asleep! If I do snore, no one's ever told me, either that or they've feel asleep before I started. However, there will sometimes be two different snorers in my bedroom. When my husband used to work 3rd shift, and I was alone at night, I'd be half asleep and hearing a fairly loud snore next to me in the bed. Thinking it was my husband who had come home early, I'd reach out . . . and grab a handful of fur. I'd wake to find our poor cat Peaches, groggy and a little peeved at being woken up, glare at me in the moonlight and settle back down, only to be heard snoring again moments later.

I do snore when I am stuffed up with a cold, or if I am in a really, really deep sleep. However, I'm not aware of it unless someone points it out to me. I can't lie about something that I am unaware of.

I would imagine that a lot of people who do this, probably don't even realize. Without the aid of another person, I doubt anybody could accurately say whether they do or do not snore.
