Git, this is one my favorites as well. Simply because I can identify with it's words. Not so much anymore but as the saying goes: "Been there, Done that". Don't wan't to relive it except in the songs. Here's a version with Kristofferson and Johnny Cash. If I'm not mistaken it was Cash that made the song famous. Kristofferson wrote it for Cash. This is the song that made Kristofferson.

Its more about drinking than drugs, and its been a favorite of mine ever since I heard it. I've told my kids they have to play it at my wake, along with a selection of other songs relating to my misspent life. I talk about drinking on here, and its not a schtick. I don`t think of myself as an alcoholic, because I don`t have the patience to go to meetings, but I`m certainly a drunkard. And as such, I`m in good company. Scott Fitzgerald, Ray Chandler, Bill Faulkner, Gene O`Neill, Jimmy Joyce, Dash Hammett, Brendan Behan, Jimmy Synge, and lots of others. I`d like to have a tenth of their talent, any of them, as much as we`ve shared the sentiments of this song.
