Along with Sgt. Pepper's, Abbey Road has to be one of the most closely studied album covers of all time. While Pepper was fascinating for all of the details, Abbey Road was fascinating for the hidden clues to the Pauls is Dead Myth. At the front of the group is John Lennon dressed in white representing heaven or Jesus followed by Ringo Starr dressed like a priest in his black coat. In the middle of the shot is the supposedly deceased Paul McCartney walking barefoot, holding a cigarette in his right hand even though he was left handed. After Paul is George Harrison, a grave digger in a work shirt and jeans. The licence plate on the VW in the background is 28IF, a coded message that Paul would have been 28 years old if he had lived. Maybe this will be the subject of Dan Brown's next book. Its all a little far fetched, even for conspiracy theorists. But it's still a really nice photo, a pleasant vista of a well treed street on a sunny day. The composition is interesting with the trees framing the road and the band members walking across. And the contrast in the subjects' attire is eye catching. If there is a hidden message I think it would be this, that the group were moving on, crossing the road, if for no reason other than to get to the other side.
