Very cool that the greatest punk act would pay homage to Elvis by issuing a cover that harkens back to his first album. Especially given that most punk fans would have only known of Elvis the bloated lounge act of his final days. Joe Strummer was as much a historian as he was a revolutionary.

The high contrast black and white photo features the dynamics of Paul Simonon spontaneously pulverizing his Fender bass at a New York Concert in 1979, in The Clash's evocation of the lettering on the cover of Elvis Presley's first RCA album ('ELVIS PRESLEY', 1956). Rolling Stone magazine describes the music on 'London Calling', number 8 on their '500 Greatest', all-time: "...nineteen songs of apocalypse fueled by an unbending faith in rock & roll to beat back the darkness."

Another classic. The photo is guitarist Paul Simenon smashing his guitar after a performance. He later said that he regretted having smashed his favorite guitar and wished he'd grabbed a spare instead.
