 | James76255 (26) 12/24/2007 | I think my main problem with the movie was the fact that they insisted on calling a couple of sheepherders "cowboys".
It was not the first movie with a "gay theme", just the most hyped. It could be determined that the movie was a push for the gay agenda, particularly the time frame in which it was set allowing them to avoid the topic of AIDS all together. But in the end (no pun intended) it was just a boring, over hyped movie that will eventually fade into memory like hundreds of others that same year. And yes, I have seen it.

 | X Factor Z (16) 10/22/2007 | Although I live on a ranch and this movie gave me nightmares, America is all about liberty even for gay people as well as the freedom of such people to express themselves. This movie does not make the USA weak, that is being done by the Jesus Freaks, health kooks and others who want to destroy Americans personal liberty.

 | kolby1973 (33) 12/20/2006 |  Even though the particular movie they are talking about is fictional and based in the 1960's, it really doesn't change America at all. In fact as a teenager living in Wyoming in the 80's, I can't count the times I was hit on by so-called cowboys..and a number of them were married. This doesn't change America at all...it just shows you a side of America that is there whether you like it or not. I personally find it repulsive when married men chase after gay guys and then go home to their wives and kids and pretend like everything is ok. BTW...I have yet to meet a true cowboy, but then again..what is a true cowboy? And as for the strange reviews by morphagent...I can think of a number of foul things that straight people do behind closed doors that are just as nasty as what you refer to as gay sex. It truly amazes me to see someone judge something they have absolutely no clue about. If you hate it so much..why do you continue to repeat yourself review after review? That is so latent...ugh.

 | jamestkirk (24) 06/21/2006 | I pay no attention to this crap coming from Hollywood. It's not worthy of attention, and yet it gets so much. Hollywood has their agenda and the means to push it. It's important for those who don't support it to pay no attention it. You can't keep any producers from making a gay movie about anything or one. That's called censorship, and that is worse than a gay movie, book,or TV series about anything at all.

Second of all, it's pathetic that they snubbed "The Passion" for Oscar nominations and the Academy gave 8 nominations for "Brokeback Mtn."

 | Molfan (63) 03/09/2006 | There are many movies with tons of subjects some are good others are lousy. movies about two characters who are gay is nothing new. I saw this movie and it was very good. I felt sympathy to the characters.the two men who find they feel for another that they can never let others know. both get married and have a family. I feel bad for the wives because they married thinking they found a man they were going to be with and both are hurt in ways. the one actually saw the two men kissing. so she knew and said nothing for years. it is a tragic movie. i felt for all of the characters. I did not get shocked that this was a movie about gay cowboys they could have been gay in any occupation. well done movie at least.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness."
I guess you don't need to hold a torch to see a little light. A judicious crowd they were, for sure. Nonetheless, I tend to blame recent intellection on the depleting ozone layer.

The "Cowboy" represents so much about out History our spirit, bravery, independence and our will to overcome to be great. So make your gay love movie....but make it using hairdressers or wedding planners. That would make much more sence. Nothing is sacred anymore. If you call this outdated thinking, so be it. UPDATE: Just for alls info, I did not see the movie. I would not spend a penny of my money of such things. That is all we can do protest this way of thinking. I appreciate all opinions here.

United States history is an ongoing record of a progressive and steady march in the direction of acceptance and egalitarianism. The fact that homosexuals are now beginning to enter mainstream entertainment (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Project Runway, Will & Grace, Brokeback Mountain) should not be surprising to even a casual observer of American society. In the early 90's we rarely saw interracial (i.e. black and white) couples on television, either. Now they're a common staple of dating contest shows.
If you don't like these manifestations of equality, I believe you and you have company. But to either be surprised by them or to think that they are at odds with the American experience is to deny what you have seen unfold during your lifetime and the history you learned about in school that took place prior to your entrance onto planet Earth.

I called it a reverse chick flick because just about everyone blubbering into their hankies was female. The few males I saw in the place were all trapped rats just like me!
Actually if you've seen "Same Time Next Year," with Ellen Burstyn and Allen Alda, you've seen this flick. The cowboys, actually sheepherders, (yes, please avoid the obvious bad-taste jokes) get together every year to cheat on their families, wives, vows, etc. The only reason it was made was to attempt to capitalize on the homosexual theme. It didn't work.
It is a very uplifting family type film. Har! Har! Har!

 | Jed1000 (74) 03/09/2006 | As far as this particular event somehow proving that "America is not America anymore"... that could only be (sort of) true if these were the first gay people in America or if this were the first gay themed movie ever made. Obviously neither one of those is true. Nothing has changed. And this is still the same America that we've known all our lives. The first amendment is apparently alive and well in Hollywood. Always nice to see that.

For every so-called progressive movie with a "hidden" liberal agenda that gets you parochial yacks all riled-up, there are 20 right-wing, reationary, shoot-em-up flicks that are lacking in cerebral qualities that do well at the box office. The so-called "liberal agenda" of Hollywood is a vastly overstated myth that has been perpetuated by right-wing talking heads, Fundamentalist Christians, and barely functioning retards pushing, you guessed it: an agenda!! That's the funny thing about a society that embraces both free speech and a free market system: There's usually a little something for everyone. It's been that way for years. Unfortunately, everytime Hollywood tries to bring forth a product that caters to an underrepresented segment of society that is educated, cultured and whose taste in entertainment transcend the standard formulae into the mainstream, you "Fire and Brimstone" yokels get your knickers in a twist. But not to worry, as long as there are those who continue to hate things like: reading, tolerance, culture, dissenting opinions, and free-choice, Hollywood will continue to churn-out enough mindless pap for you to drool over as long as you keep shelling out the $$$. Let Freedom Ring!!!

...or are the people who advocate segregation and the abolishment of female suffrage the only true Americans?
The fact that these changes are now perceived as good things is a reflection of the fact that people's perspectives of right and wrong have changed on a broad base over time. So what gives any one generation the right to think that they have finally got it right?
If your cage is rattled, if someone is questioning the validity of something you took for granted, maybe it is a good thing. There is no shame in a little introspection and perhaps internal revision of the value systems that have calcified inside you.
