In addition to the top-notch performances turned in by Eastwood, Swank and Freeman, I liked the movie because it didn't take the easy way out with a sugar-coated or "feel good" ending. The story was written and played out honestly.
A quality piece of cinematic work that is well worth renting on DVD if you haven't seen it yet.

It is worth it win, and better then all the other movies nominated; movies like the Aviator, Sideways, Ray, and Finding Neverland.
Again, the nominations are horrible.
For one thing, the German made film 'The Downfall' about the last days of Hitler's life didn't even win best Foregin Language Film. It was the best non-American film of the year, by far, and could have easily given Million Dollar Baby a run for its money.
It was pathetic that Bruno Ganz wasn't even nominated either for best actor. Foxx' performance is impressive, but Ganz' is so much better. It is an all encompassing role, for much of the movie (really the entire film), Bruno Ganz is Hitler, as his actions and visible appearance are so close to perfect. It is amazing that this film was so easily ignored that year.
Its a difficult film to watch, but a film that deserved so much more.
