This was a terrible year. The academy must have delegated its voting power to a gaggle of morons. Look at the competition and you can see the sorry field. I guess the voters loved cliches and voted this awful picture in.

Very deserving, unique movie. Purposely over the top characters, you're not sure you're watching a drama, a comedy, horror movie. perfectly acted by Benning and Spacey.

A strong choice, visually, narratively, and in terms of craft. American Beauty gets my vote.

Not deserving. The ultimate "feel bad" movie. Boredom, punctuated by disturbing scenes.

I loved everything about this movie though the Green Mile probably should have won. But Im not disappointed that this one did.

Well made, well acted, well written, but personally I found it a pretty cliche-ladden, cynical view of middle class, suburban life. Hollywood has been trying to come up with its definative statement about how hollow the American Dream is for the last half century, but they haven't been able to top the stage's "Death of a Salesman" yet.

The film is a cheap-shot at middle-America, to be sure. . .but it is also well-acted and viciously funny. . .a so-so Oscar for me. . .

A great film, with all sorts of nuances. The morality brigade really overstepped their bounds with this one being upset about a married man having sex with a teenage girl. If they'd bothered to watch it before commenting they'd know it didn't happen.
