Not a bad film, but weak compared to the competition. I'd have gone with Sense and Sensibility from this field, but my overall choice would be the non-nominated Dead Man Walking.

Utter garbage. I don't recall what the other nominees were, but any of them would have been better choices than this dreadful, tedious junk.

Okay, the film isn't aging well. . .and yes, the gay-bashing, the historical inaccuracies, and the convenient plot twists certainly make this a lesser film among other great Oscar winners. . .but it is a bruising and exciting movie although shameless in its attempt to emotionally manipulate you. . .

Tedious, trite, not even as good as the other Scottish history film from around the same time "Rob Roy," which wasn't that great but at least had Tim Roth and Neeson in it...Is there a Celtic Anti Defamation League # I can call?...(I'm joking)
