One of the first great novel adaptations, Gone With the Wind is a classic that never grows old. Brilliant acting and directing along with a durability that makes people watch it again and again, Gone With the Wind is the true epitome of a Best Picture.

Boring movie that took place in a crappy state.

Today is December 15, and on this date in history, in 1939, "Gone With The Wind" premiered in Atlanta.

This phenomenon used to come back to theaters every few years or so to play to packed houses. People never tired of it in pre-VCR, old time America days.

I think if you add an inflation multiplier, that this film is still the highest grossing film in history.

How that wimp, Ashley, could resist the luscious Scarlett is anyone's guess.

Timeless, classic, endearing. One of my favorite movies of that time.

Set the stage for "epic" movies. Unquestionably among the top five films of all-time.

I think this movie was deserving, but it was long and drawn out. I would have like to see Wizard of Oz win the oscar.

The film is so famous that its hard to watch it with unjaded eyes 65+ years later. It is the pinnacle of Golden Era Hollywood epics. The production is amazing, the performances solid, and its depiction of the rise and (mainly) fall of the great south is very intriguing. Still, I'm struck by the feeling that its just a really, really good popcorn movie when I watch it.

Terrific winner from 1939, which may have been the best year ever for nominated movies. GWTW beat out Stagecoach, Mr. Smith goes to Washington, Ninotchka, Wuthering Heights, Dark Victory, Goodbye Mr. Chips, and of course The Wizard of Oz, all films that probably would have won best movie in many other years.
