I am a sworn enemy of the risible 'Cult of the Cohen Brothers' (over half of their movies are unwatchable, pretentious tripe) but I loved O'Brother. As for the soundtrack, it belongs with those of Ennio Morricone and Miklos Roza-that is to say, The Best. The music of Alison Krauss/Union Station may stand above the rest, but *all* the tracks are good. This one is a keeper.

If you like country western, blue grass, blues, Southern politics and the flavor to back it all up, you should like this. George Clooney plays a modern Ulysses trying to get back to reclaim his wife and passing through similar obstacles that the Ulysses of literature met in the "Odyssey." Ulysses and his cronies even meet a cyclops in the form of John Goodman! Charles Durning plays Governor of Mississippi, Pappy O'Daniel, and there was a real life Pappy O'Daniel, Governor of Texas who did the same stuff as During in the movie including "Pass the Biscuits, Pappy." Politicians in the know also recognize that Durnings, theme song, "You Are My Sunshine," was written by and used by Governor Jimmy Davis in his campaigns for Governor of Louisana. That was the same Jimmy Davis that Paul Newman, playing Earl Long ran into in "Blaze." The music was great and the image of the Carter family on the stump was absolutely fabulous. The sound track was award winning. I just bought this flick on DVD and watched it three times in a row to get it all. I left lots out, but give it a shot.

First off the movie is great and is a must see. I am not a fan of country or blue grass but the sound track for this film is great. The music makes the movie and is a very important part of the movie. It does what a good soundtrack should do, it helps tell the story.

This soundtrack was okay, but not a keeper for me (I got it as a gift and sold it a few months later)......actually I do not understand why everyone loves this soundtrack and movie so much. It was one of the Coen Brothers' weaker movies (personally I have not liked any of their movies since Fargo, and I thought their first three movies--Blood Simple, Raising Arizona and Miller's Crossing--were incredible). Had I enjoyed the movie more, I probably would have loved the soundtrack.

I'm not a big fan of bluegrass music, but I have to admit that I love this soundtrack. As always, Alison Krause does some wonderful work on this album. The songs are fun, melodic, and memorable. If you liked the movie, you'll love the soundtrack.

Pretty good CD. it has a lot of songs that would have been sung in the 1930s. some of the more older sounding country music. There are various singers on this track including Alison Kraus. WEll done CD.

I just purchased the soundtrack and it's awesome! The only complaint about it is the inclusion of Warrant's Cherry Pie....not very old timey at all....

This soundtrack is an absolute blast! It is so different from anything else out there and the music is SO purely American. I love it!

One of the best soundtracks of all time. A mix of old time songs, folk, bluegrass. James Carter & The Prisoners singing "Po Lazarus" hooks you from the beginning. Great songs such as Big Rock Candy Mountain, You Are My Sunshine, Down to the River to Pray, I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow, In the Jailhouse Now, and Lonesome Valley. But the most haunting and memorable song is O Death performed with such sorrow by Ralph Stanley. Great performances by Alison Kraus, Dan Tyminski, Chris Thomas King, The Fairfield Four, Gillian Welch and more. Every song, every note is a gem and will remind you what good pure music is about.

I am normally not happy when a type of music goes mainstream that is normally just a limited group of listeners, however I like that this got semi-popular. My reasons for this are that bluegrassis the true American music. If there is a traditional American genre, this is it. The album does justice to bluegrass greats like Norman Blake, that really do deserve recognition for their talents.

This is a great CD, hands down! It's good to hear bluegrass got the exposure that it did with this album. Each song was re-done with class.

I never liked country music, especially not bluegrass, but the music in this movie is really fun and it makes the film much more interesting.

love the soundtrack, love the film. this is not my normal music genre ... but you can tell that they have assembled the best-of-the-best of the mountain music artists/musicians/singers. great art is great art.

This is the wonderful soundtrack to the best film of 2000. Glad to see the Grammys gave the award to a deserving candidate (and again in 2001)! This album features a terrific sampeling of Bluegrass, true country music.

The only reason I don't give it five stars is because the soundtrack does not contain the version of "I'll Fly Away" that is heard in the film. Even then, this is better than 99.9 percent of the soundtracks out there. I'm sure this was because of some copyrighting red tape and I understand that. If anyone else wants the version heard in the film, go to the Barnes and Noble website and search for The Kossoy Sisters album "Bowling Green". It's a great album in itself. I have to say that the version by Alison Krauss and Gillian Welch is VERY good, but not as good as the Kossoy Sisters.

What wonderful music! I've just recently started to listen to bluegrass, initially enticed by Alison Krauss's music. The "O Brother" soundtrack has a great variety of singers and mix of songs for the newcomer to bluegrass. Another excellent bluegrass CD I found is "Blue Trail of Sorrow".

This CD and "O Sister" have been my introduction to bluegrass -- only an introduction, though, as I've been gripped by the music and will be seeking more of the same. "O Death" sent chills down my spine.

The songs in this movie stuck with me for a long time, a sign of a great soundtrack. "I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow" is a great American Classic of a song. This movie will be popular for years based solely on this soundtrack. Great stuff!

This cd contains wonderful, rootsy music. It's great to see it become so popular because the music is pure, down-to-earth, richly textured and superbly performed. It is also unlike almost any other popular cd of the moment. Old songs like "I'll Fly Away" and "You Are My Sunshine" stand alongside newer compositions that have that same heart and soul. Especially good work by Alison Krauss and Gillian Welch. The bluegrass flavor is delicious.

Great stuff on this tape. Especially the mandolin version of "Man of Constant Sorrow". Very energized. I also really like "I'll Fly Away" and "Indian War Whoop"
