 | Djahuti (54) 03/31/2006 | Oh,those greedy remaining Doors! They seem bent on vampirically sucking each and every fan as dry as possible by releasing overpriced CDs from their huge collection of live recordings, throwing in just enough tempting stuff to make people buy it,even though another version of "Light My Fire" is about as much fun as sticking your wee wee in a mouse trap. Also extremely annoying is their habit of giving titles and track numbers to taped moments of petty banter and/or audience noise (eg."The Concert Continues" track 1 disc 2).Now that I got THAT off my chest,I can also say that this most recent release has some hot moments.Of the 11 tracks on Disc One,4 or 5 cuts are top notch or close.Morrison was NOT at his best for this concert, and it shows. The band, however, was cranking and I'm guessing they said-"Who cares how the singer sounded that night-WE sounded great, and he always got all the attention anyway" when they decided on this 1970 show for their next release. The choice cuts here are "Backdoor Man/Love Hides" and "Universal Mind".Disc Two is a let down.Jimbo was pretty trashed by this part of the concert, and "Maggie M'Gill",(a real attraction since this is the first Live version released commercially to my knowledge),sounds pretty crappy. There's an interesting take on "Roadhouse Blues"(reprise),and a halfway decent "Down so Long/Rock me Baby" followed by a pretty sorry "Carol" and "Soul Kitchen".It'd be nice if it cost about HALF of what I paid for it.
