03/23/2006 | These guys were so adept at performing live that their FIRST album is a live one! That's balls! The trio of Jorma Kaukonen(guitar),Jack Cassidy (bass) and Will Scarlett (harmonica) here display a feel for the acoustic blues that goes way beyond just "doing covers" of old blues standards.They breathe passion,life and soul into the tunes starting out with a playful version of the traditional "Hesitation Blues".Other high points,for me,anyway,are "Don't you leave me Here" a Jellyroll Morton tune,Rev.Gary Davis "Oh Lord,Search My Heart",and "Winin Boy Blues"(also by Jellyroll Morton).They not only do justice to the originals without "ripping them off" but add their own unique musical twists and turns to the renditions.A real treat for lovers of "old school" blues!
