3/20/2006 - I don't think I see the Red Sox getting back to the playoffs with the roster they have to start the year. Bronson Arroyo was traded away today, and I thought he was one of their most consistent pitchers. Schilling and Wells can be good, but are both very old for Major League players. They could break down at any time. Josh Becket is talented, but has never pitched 30 games in a year, and Matt Clement isn't exactly lights out. Offensively they lost Johnny Damon, who has scored over 100 runs a year every season since 1998, and got Coco Crisp in return who had a lower OBP and less SBs last season. They will still be good, but not as dominant without Damon leading off. Update - I was right on with this review back in March. The Red Sox will have to do a lot of work to get back to where they were before the 2006 season.

I think they make the playoffs, Schilling appears healthy, and they have been blessed to find a suprise in their bullpen at this early point.

I predict them to win the wildcard. Made a lot of offseason moves and Jon Papelbon is doing good at closer so far. He has a bright future ahead of him.

Yankees pitching is terrible. Sox have the best offense. Damon will hit .240 and the White Sox can't reapeat.

Go, BOSOX!!!!! In fact, my only "5" choice.

Looking at the team and the offseason moves, my primary reaction is "oh dear" Don't think this team can go the distance.

I don't see them winning it all either, though they may make the playoffs. Kind of a weird looking team on paper, that doesn't seem to 'gell' all that well to me.
