Very wishful thinking to think they will be in the playoffs.

I think they'll be fighting with the Giants neck and neck, but the contests versus the two will be won by the Padres. I think San Diego will pull it out on the last weekend of the season.

I'm confident they'll make the playoffs but not so sure about the World Series. GO PADRES! Gotta love my hometown team!

Could win the division, and have some good players, especially Peavy, and Greene is a solid shortstop if he can avoid getting hurt. They don't have a lot of pop in their bats for the most part, though that may be attributable in part to the fact that they have a pitcher's park. I predict somewhere from 84-89 wins, which may or may not be good enough to make the postseason.

The Padres have a decent amount of talent. Their biggest asset is one of the game's best young pitchers in Jake Peavy. He can be counted on to win a lot of games for them. Mike Piazza was their big offseason acquisition, and I'm not sure how much that will help them. I see them making the playoffs out of the weakest division in baseball again, but ultimately losing in the first round of the playoffs as well.

They should be a better team than last year. The whole NL West was terrible. This year it should be better. Look for a respectable winning season. 88-90 wins.
