There are some astonishing performances though. The Who did a spectacular job as usual, and Hendrix's 'Star Spangled Banner" has passed into legend. 10 Years After went from a modestly popular blues rock act to stars after Alvin Lee's thrilling work on "I'm Going Home." Sly and the Family Stone did an incredible, spirited version of 'I Want To Take You Higher." Some acts, like the aforementioned Mountain and 10 Years After benefitted greatly from their exposure at the festival. The big festivals back then always allowed some groups to gain in popularity due to their performances, and believe it or not, while Woodstock was the most famous, there are some other festivals that may have had an even greater assemblage of talent back then. But the one band that benefitted the most was a band that had not even put out a record yet, and were unknown outside of the Bay Area- Santana, whose electrifying rendition of "Soul Sacrifice' from this gig is absolutely one of the most incredible pieces of rock music I've ever seen.
