The Cowboys probably released him because he's beginning to slow down and they needed some more room for the salary cap, but nevertheless, the 34 year old is a 325 pound tank which should open holes up for RB Frank Gore, who can't seem to stay healthy all year. Allen will also help protect 2nd year QB Alex Smith, who didn't have such a great rookie season, with a putrid passer rating (40.9). Allen will probably give the 49ers two or maybe three productive seasons. That's good considering that there is plenty of young talent along that offensive line which needs mentoring from a more experienced player.

The Niners line last year was terrible. They have a lot of young guys picked up in the first 4 draft rounds. Kwame Harris will learn about meanness.
