I always thought Van Halen were overrated. Eddie is a good guitarist but Roth is annoying. There is a ton of filler on all of their albums.

This is one of the greatest rock albums ever made. It opens with one of the all-time great rock songs "Mean Street", which features one of Eddie's countless amazing riffs. You can keep naming some of the best rock songs ever created on this album, "Dirty Movies", "Sinner's Swing", "Hear About it Latter", of course "Unchained", the slow rocker "Push Comes to Shove", the fun "So This Is Love?" and the awesome instrumental "Sunday Afternoon in the Park" which leads right into the closing track "One Foot Out the Door". This album is as good as any album that came out at the same time, if not better!

Eddie's playing was pretty intense on this album and the songs were much more dark than the previous 3 albums. Apparently there was a lot of tension in the studio when it was recorded as well between Eddie, the producer and of course, DLR. Eddie recorded most of his parts after hours after everyone else had gone home.

No. This is in fact pretty average and way below VH's best, admittedly their best being limited just to the debut, 1984 and possibly Women and Children First. Mind you it's not as bad as Diver Down and the post DLR cack.

I agree...along with VH1, this was Van Halen's best release. I can listen to it over and over and not grow tired of hearing it.
