I don't want to feel like I'm kissing an ashtray.

I'd prefer a non-smoker. Nothing personal, but I simply think that smoking is an unhealthy habit and I prefer not to be with someone who does.

Trust me ladies, the majority of men do not like women that smoke and if we both smoke and drink its a huge turn-off. Just the same way some of us ladies wouldn't like a man that smokes, why would we expect a man to accept it if we did?

I dunno, I think this one's a matter of the individual's own tastes. Individuals tend to be drawn to other like-minded individuals (smokers to other smokers, nonsmokers to other nonsmokers). Not to say that a smoker-nonsmoker relationship wouldn't work; some work fine. It depends on how important it is to you.

My wife gave up smoking when she was still my girlfriend and we moved to LA from Tokyo. She did this without prodding or even suggestion from me. She simply remarked that when she had visited Southern California before, smoking was a hassle because there are so many restrictions upon where you can do it here. After having quit for 18 months, she announced to me that she had "given up too much of herself" and was going to the nearby 7-11 to buy a pack of coffin nails. Of course, my explanation that giving up the cancerous part of her life was a good thing fell on deaf ears and she promptly trotted off to the convenience store to acquire her nicotine delivery devices. About half a year later she quit again. She was off for a year and then jumped right back on the tobacco pony. Currently she sucks down about a half dozen each day. It doesn't bother me so long as she stays healthy. It just struck me as really pointless to go to the trouble of quitting only to start back up again.

I don't smoke, so it isn't a big deal to me at all.

I quit smoking a long time ago,but lots of my lady loves have been smokers.I wished they'd stop, especially for the sake of their own health, but I understand how addicted they were.I would prefer a non-smoking partner, but it wouldn't stop me from falling in love, either.

Not important if she keeps it to no more than ten cancer sticks per day.

Considering that my generation is blessed with the knowledge of the multifarious affects this wretched poison has on the anatomy, I would hope my prospective mate would have the mental acuity and the resistance to external social pressures not to start at all. Having said that, my first love, who I have not seen for some time, did have this nasty habit. The thought of her cheery falsetto voice becoming sullen and raspy, or something worse, often plagued my thoughts.

Possibly it's the people I associate with but I would say more than 60% of my female friends are at least social smokers. If they go out to a bar they'll wind up having a cigarette, and that's cool with me because I'm the same way. But a pack or more a day habit? That's a tough one to kick, and I know if I dated her I'd want her to quit, and then right off the bat I'm trying to change her...sounds like I'm going down the wrong path before I even met this girl.

My wife has never smoked and this is all I know, in fact I really don't remember dating any smokers; not that during that time in my life I would have been that choosey. I do not smoke, I do not like second hand smoke and I do not think my wife plans on starting now after 29 years of marriage.

Smoking definitely isn't attractive, it smells bad, and its an expensive habit.

93century thinks of the billboard that says kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray.
