Lester had a passion for music and advocated for a host of music that may not have broke through had it not been for his writing. Even if you didn't care for the music he was writing about, he was worth reading because he was such a distinctive writing voice. He also gave good reviews to bad records if he liked the artist and later in life admitted that he did so on a handful of Van Morrison's albums. But what stood out was his balls to the walls style and that he didn't feel as compelled to right as he was compelled to be good.

C'mon, let Lester in so he can give the joint the thrashing it so richly deserves.

I might have recently voted for Peel, but what Lester bangs did does not really compare. One writer once said amusingly "Queen is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Are the critics?" I actually agree 100% with the critical panning of Queen (I often joke of Freddie Mercury dying of mercury poisoning from a leaky dental filling!), but that is no reaosn to suppose Lester Bangs had any real role in redifining actual rock music like Peel did.
