I think that it is more properly called the Charles Bridge after Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia, Charles IV. He started construction of the bridge in the middle of the 14th century and it continued for many years. It is probably the most famous bridge in Europe with its many statues of Christ, the Virgin Mary and many of the saints. It has been damaged by floods on the Moldau many times but still stands after 650 years.
