I'm sorry to say that 240 Union isn't as good as it used to be. That's not to say that it isn't a fine restaurant, but it has definitely changed in the last year. My husband and I have lived in Denver for 10 years, and we always celebrated special occasions at 240 Union. With outstanding food and service, an interesting menu, and a nice wine selection, it never disappointed us- until recently. Last October, we had a disastrous experience there when we went to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. I made reservations, and we had to stand in a cramped area by the bar for 35 minutes before being seated. Our waiter had a major attitude, and my food was inedible (charred to a crisp and drenched in butter). Not wanting to make the evening more unpleasant, I decided to let our waiter know about my bad food when he came by to check on us. He never did. I had to flag him down, and by that time my husband and my mother-in-law had finished their food. He was unsympathetic, more of his snobby attitude was displayed, and he summoned the manager without trying to do anything to improve the situation. The manager handled things pretty well, and he invited us to return another night with a gift certificate. Last month, we decided to give the restaurant another try. We didn't have to wait for a table this time, and our waitress was OK. She didn't know much about the menu, though, and she didn't offer to find out the answers to my questions. (I had to ask her to get the answers.) The salad I always order was smaller and not as good as it used to be, and the bread wasn't as tasty. I had trouble finding something on the menu to order. Our food ended up tasting fine, but nothing was outstanding. I didn't mind the steep prices at 240 Union when the quality was very high, but I don't think it's worth it anymore. I guess we'll have to find another favorite restaurant.
