Limbaugh is a lot of things...a shameless liar, a predictable and dull apologist for the Bush Administration, a drug-addicted (the enormous quantities of Vicodin he took in all likelihood account for his deafness) scumbag, a hypocrite, a pumpkin-headed bigot (he may have lost some weight...massive quantities of opiates and pain-killers can do that...but, incredibly, that massive dome of his has only gotten bigger), a wealthy would-be comedian and sports-announcer, a glorified disc jockey, a loser with women, a probable prison inmate (one can only hope)...but it's unlikely he's stupid. He's probably not as intelligent as he or his cultish devotees would like to think, but that's probably true of a lot of us (the difference being, I guess, that most of us don't have cultish devotees). He's certainly not original...Joe Pyne and Bob Grant had staked out that intolerant terrain on the airwaves decades before. They weren't any less bigoted or regressive than Limbaugh, but they were able to articulate their specious rationalizations with far more logic and humor than Limbaugh was ever able to do. I always thought Grant was as much of a slimebag as Limbaugh (although I don't know that he ever stooped to having his maid score his drugs for him), but I was a fairly regular listener to his show, as he was quite intelligent and was occasionally laugh-out-loud funny. Still, Limbaugh was shrewd enough to capitalize on the "Reagan Revolution" in America and there's no denying that he has been successful over the years (he seems to have modeled his public persona on the cartoon character of Foghorn Leghorn), which says more that's sadly depressing about the collective intelligence and sophistication of the American public than it does about Limbaugh.

Like Mike Moore, he's figured out a schtick and he's making a wagon load of cash with it. I doubt that he's brilliant, but he's certainly not stupid. And by the way, he's exactly the same as Michael Moore, in that he's an entertainer, not a journalist.

How anyone could think that Rush is stupid is a stretch. He has been at the top of his game for almost twenty years. He is quick, witty, and brilliant. He also drives the leftos up a wall.

I hardly think Rush would qualify here. He has more listeners than any radio talk show combined. More people come to his show for hard news than NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN or the Daily Show.

Well, he may be a lying scumbag and hypocritical blowhard, but he is brilliant at what he does. Giving him two stars just for the unlikely event that he actually believes more than half of what he says.
