Sphynx is mysterious and unanswered wonder of the world. Whoever built it humans, aliens?, did a good job. Lion with the human head was intentinally placed in Egypt because of its geographical importance and because of direct effect with certain stars, the question is why? I guess it explains why Sphynx is so mysterious. Plus, I've heard that the face of the Sphynx exactly matches to the face that was descovered on the surface of Mars.Wonders!!!

Lying 300 meters southwest of the pyramid at Giza, the Sphinx has been an object of Mystery since before Dynastic Egypt.(thousands of years BC)Supposedly "discovered" by the Pharoah Thothmes after a dream of it,he had it unburied and "restored".(Leading to much speculation that the human head,a likeness of Thothmes, was carved from an original head, that of a Lioness.)In Greek Myth, the Sphinx was sent by the Godess Hera to punish the people of Thebes by eating any passer-by who failed to answer her riddle. She still has her riddles, and today they are fought over by archaeologists-some maintaining that the wear on her body is due only to sand while others claim to have proven that the original wear was from WATER,and that the Sphinx is even more ancient than previously guessed. This makes a lot of sense, because the area that is now (and has been for thousands upon thousands of years) desert WAS at one time the edge of a vast jungle.People who live in or near Jungles tend to venerate Lions, and in a primitive culture the Female Lion makes a perfect Godess Symbol- a fiercely protective yet nurturing (to her cubs) being.
