Part of Handel's Messiah and the words "Come oh come Emmanuel and ransom captive Israel, who sits in lowly exile here" captures the real cry of the Jews at the time of his birth, who were looking for relief from the foreign oppression and the estabilshment of YHWH as king in Israel instead of the Herod's. They felt that their captivity that began in 586 at the fall of the Temple had not yet really and truly ended. This song captures the release from bondage and exile that the good news of the gospel is really about.
