If you haven't seen this movie, do so. Duvall was nominated for the Oscar but did not haul it in that year. He stars as a Marine pilot who is able to do everything right on the job and is a complete failure at home with his wife and family.

It is rather sad, really, to watch it unfold. When I first saw it in the theater, it was call The Ace, but changed soon to the Great Santini, the title of the book from which it was taken. Santini is the persona that Duvall's character takes.

he was terrific in this movie. he was convincing as this tyrant of a father and husband. he was in the services and fought in wars.now he had to return to his family and try and make ends meet. he was a very temperamental man. who had a lot of issues. he was very good in this movie about the troubled santini.Good cast.
