I don't know about you guys, but I'm not a connoisseur of hot sauces (I LIKE hot sauce, but I haven't tried all 1000 of them in the list), and I don't actually have pet insurance.  But, I made these lists, anyway.  I see it as a great way for me to learn about what's out there.

True... but this doesn't mean you aren't interested in this said thing...

'Best Fictional Detective', for example... All I had to do was ramble on about Poirot and people were convinced I am an expert. To be honest, I haven't even heard of half of them...

You might not have any experience on a particular topic, but you may have a personal opinion and sometimes that personal opinion is a lot more valid than someone doing a parrot reciting act.
