ok... so... a huge wall from California to Texas. Yeah... good. Let's make a huge wall from Washington to Maine as well.  This is better... lets close the shores...  build a wall from Washington to California and from Maine all around to Texas. Yes that would be great. trade would come by air.  Lets close ALL the borders.  Return the country  to the good old days of isolation.  Question is who will build it. I know I won't. Unless of course they pay me a good salary, benefits, you know the works. Well... no... that would cost to much tax money.  Lets get the illegals to do it.  They'll do anything almost for free. Then we'll keep them out. Thats the idea.  I mean they are laxy, and they take our jobs, and they don't pay taxes, drain the welfare system, etc.  Those hardened criminals. Shame on them.  They should all be locked up. Them and their kids. Those evil things.  Taking spaces at school, draining our resources. Makes one want to grab his/her rifle and just go minute man on them.

But let's be serious.

Of course we shouldn't build a wall.  Who is going to pay for it.  Think that there will be some "build a wall" fund. Yes some will be glad that our tax dollars will go to build such expensice wall. poeple lets get this straight. first of all the terrorist were not illegal immigrants. they were legal. they had visas. passports. civilians like you and I who were sick in the head. not illegal immigrants.  Illegal immigrants dont take our  jobs. they do what we dont want to do. show me any american who wants to pick fruit for sixteen hrs a day. who wants to get paid lower then the federal minimum wage of 6.75 and hr.  If they raise the price so does the product. and whose is going to pay ten dollars for a mango, five for one strawberry, and twenty for a watermelon.  no one i know of. Illegal immigrants do pay taxes by the way. Many have this pin, which allows them to file taxes to the IRS. of course since they are illegal they can't claim anything. so no money back for them. those who dont have a pin pay other taxes. like and sales tax. and those who have a fake social, well, they pay taxes too. and again. since they are illegal, they dont get anything back. no stimulus packages for them. these people are not out to break our laws, they come here for a variety of reasons, and they do not want to break any laws. They come here to reunite with family or to find better emplyement opportinities. and would prefer to do so through legal channels. the immigration system is extremely limited, an undocumented immigrant cannot just apply for a visa. They are not lazy. Aside from working very bad low wage dead end jobs, many work two or three jobs.  These people are hard working.  Instead of building a wall, we should help these countries out.  So they wont risk their lives coming here.  We need to stop treating them like hardened criminals, they are not. who ever said humans are illegal. they are not aliens. they are humans like you and I.  and for goodness sakes. we cannot invade Mexico. we already took away california, utah, new mexico, arizona, nevada and texas from them. we already ignored the clauses of the treaty we made with them, treatinng them like garbage and taking their lands. No one wants to work 16 hr days. These people just want to better their futures. Many cannot do that in their countries. we, the country that begun with immigrants need to understand them. Is not that what defines is as a people. the land of the free. the land of the brave. We already tried isolationism. that did not work out. how about we open our arms, and help those who needs us. not just those south of the border, but illegal immigrants from everywhere. applying for  visa is not cheap. costs hundreds of dollars. that is why they come here illegally. do you think they want to risk their lives. no, they dont. they just want to live. live a better life then the ones they had in their countries. many of these people come from countries so poor, full of violence, major economic stress.  they come from streets where sidewalks dont exist. where their governments can care less about them. instead of treating them like hardened criminals we need to do something about the immigration reform. and we need to ask these governments to help their people out.  but on top of all that we need to get out facts straight and stop being ignorant about illegal immigration. illegal immigrants are not bad people. they are real good. ever met one. i know many. they are nice. really nice. and they keep things affordable...  

I think illegal immigration is a huge problem, and building a wall along Mexico from TX to CA would make a lot of sense to me.  With stupid bailouts, pointless wars, and lame candidates, this would be a really easy and affordable fix to one of the United States current slew of problems.  It's cliche to say this but I'm all for those who want to live and work here legally but those who don't respect our laws need to leave.  Personally, I'd like to deport McCain, Obama, Cher, Billy Joel, Aerosmith, Bragelina, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, my sister's boyfriend, Maury Povich, Rosie O'Donnell, Rush Limbaugh

Speaking as a Canuck, there are times, after witnessing some particularly annoying tourist, that I'd favor a wall built along the 49th Parallell to keep some folks south of it.

A wall with machine guns mounted on top of it and some landmines would do the trick nicely. OR make it impossible for them to work here by inforcing the LAW,not allowing their kids to go to school and not allowing them to legally obtain housing, they will self deport. Either way problem solved....................OH and for those of you who want to scream racism etc at me show me any other civilized country you can just walk into?

It would probably be cheaper just to pay for them to live in the US... and a wall isn't exactly an insurmountable obstacle.

Walls can never prevent the digging of tunnels, which would increase in density and length. Kind or reminds me of the Berlin wall. We might as well place land mines. Not practical.

it wouldn't completely solve the problem, but it would help, especially if the border was patrolled by either the national guard or american soldiers.

They only real way to enfore our policy. Illegal immigrants are ILLEGAL, or in other words BREAKING THE LAW! My father became a naturalized citizen. Either they should do that, or be granted permanent residence status, or a visa at the very least so they DON'T BREAK THE LAW. If we are ever going to be taken seriously by the global community, then we better do something about this PROBLEM. The wall will be a band-aid for the immigration wound with immigrants being the ever-flowing blood. Unless clearly stated, this is the best way. So don't say , "There's a better way", and criticize unless you can clearly state the appropriate alternative. You gotta be realistic and practical.

It might not be as effective a deterrent as people think. What's to stop travellers from overstaying their tourist visas? There's a big market for cheap labor, and little enforcement of current labor laws. Employers who have hired the five percent of U.S. jobs which are currently filled by illegal immigrants have not been held accountable. The stiffest penalties belong to those who are cheating the public large amounts of employment taxes, as well as those exploiting their fellow humans in ruthlessly hazardous conditions. Building more boundaries will not change anyone's determination. Walls are an incomplete response at best.

What you do is use the illegals to build the wall and you get the supplies from Mexico, that has one of the world's largest stone plants in the world, and make it look like a good economic decision to the Mexican government. After they are done building you send them back and garrison it with 30,000 U.S. troops and National Guardsmen.

A wall would be ineffective in the long-term and would send a most inappropriate signal--- ultimately it would be little more than a symbolic response to a crisis in dire need of a practical solution. It would be much more prudent and cost-effective to simply invest additional manpower and resources in border patrol activities.

It's worth the money and will work.

Dramatic but probably minimally effective. A lot of people enter the country by coming here on vacation (i.e. airplane) and just not going home. Also, illegals are commonly shipped in via private boats departing from Ensenada and heading to Long Beach or San Diego. It would be a huge expense that would be less effective than prosecuting the employers who hire them.

This is really STUPID.You mean to tell me with all the BILLIONS we spend on National Defense Technology we can't come up with something better than the Chinese used against the Mongol Hordes?
