11/14/2005 | I'll say this about this category: you can't rate the TYPE of gun and come up w/ a best/worst list. Each firearm serves a specific purpose, and it's that purpose that makes them unique. This rating system should be categorized into the types (pistol, rifle, shotgun, etc) and THEN we should vote on the manufacturer's models in each category.
A shotgun is probably the number 1 choice for home protection next to a handgun. There's nothing that can measure up to the stopping power of a 12 gauge (or 16, 20, etc). Sometimes, just the racking sound will scare intruders away. and it's great for apartment dwelling, where you have to worry about over-penetration and hurting your neighbors.
I gave it 5 stars for its stopping power for home defense (assuming you use the right kind of ammo).
