For a brief period in the early 70's Bill Withers couldn't miss and put out a string of incredibly folky soulful records that are stone classics, Ain't No Sunshine, Lean On Me, Use Me, When I'm Kissing My Love, My Grandma's Hands. He put out a great live record that summarized the period and then more or less dropped off the radar, resurfacing with an 80's easy listening hit "Just the Two of Us". I'm loathe to admit it, but Sting did an excellent cover with the Gil Evans Band. But for my money, Bill waxed the smoldering definative version.

Excellent song that has been covered by all hands and the cook at some point since it was written. Personally I prefer either of the Buddy Guy versions or Joe Cockers angst driven interpretation, but Withers does a decent job.

A good song that will forever remind me of boot camp. There was a guy that sang this every night in a deep rich voice. It was almost haunting. he did a great job with it and you knew he had someone on his mind. Can't hear it without thinking of him.

This is a beautiful song even though the lyrics are kind of depressing. But it's too short at only 2 minutes!
